This week’s assignment asks the question, “identify and evaluate the impact that federal or state health care policies are having on consumer costs. Explore both positive and negative effects.” The Affordable Care Act (ACA) The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has accomplished much that its drafters intended. There is considerable evidence of increased access to health care and reduced medical debt. But there is growing concern about affordability of health insurance coverage for middle-i…

New York Pediatrician is an anti-vaxxer

The American Academy of Pediatrics should step in and do something about this doctor. Lawrence Palevsky, MD, who sees patients in Manhattan and Suffolk County on Long Island. His clinic's website promises "personalized, comprehensive consultations" to address "children's wellness, and acute and chronic illnesses."

The guy is a big Anti-Vaxxer and is against the MMR vaccine. How can the society let this guy practice medicine when he clearly doesn't understand science?

Reduce the Healthcare Deficit

The goal of the option to reduce the healthcare deficit is to decrease spending on health programs. The option to deficit I choose to focus on is the federal government’s perspective and capping Medicaid funding to the states. In 2016 the state of Iowa decided after much debate to privatize Medicaid. The hopes in privatizing were to turn the government healthcare program into managed care by for profit insurance companies. The thinking behind this was the insurance companies would save the sta…

Increasing Medicare Age to 67

Currently the age that Americans become eligible for Medicare is 65. After reading the CBO ‘s Options for Reducing the Deficit, specifically, Health-Option 9, I was able to evaluate that while there would be a great deal of saving for the federal government, there would be an increase in cost for those that are currently 65 to 66 years old. It is the truth that "Medicare-for-all" plans wouldn't work and would actually create a spike intaxes for many Americans.

"The old saying is if you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it's 'free,'" Jacobs, the founder of Juniper Research Group, said. "You will end up paying for it in tax dollars and higher taxes and it will encourage people to overconsume healthcare."

"If you are paying 20 percent of your taxes, double it," Jacobs said. "You are not going to end up making money on …

FDA Chief Gottlieb Resigns

He was well like for sure. As a parent, I’m concerned about what happens to the work he did to curb vaping and e-cigarettes. He delivered a plan to curtail these two but it may be lost since he’s leaving. The companies selling those products are clearly targeting kids with the packaging. I hope it put a plan in place for someone else to see it through.
