ROSA Robot

Any input from reps on how Rosa is being integrated into the sales cycle? Zimmer wanted to take business away from Mazor in Spine but Mazor just released X last week and they appear to be doing great with the help of Medtronic.

Is Rosa even being pushed much yet?

Rosa is a joke

Hardly a joke. Knee application coming in the back half of this year.

Anyone at AANS this week for the WalterLorenz surgical assist/Rosa Brain announcement?

"We are excited to make our Surgery Assisting Technology platform available to our customers. SAT is a focused, yet customizable, platform solution applicable to many surgical treatments within inpatient and outpatient settings. We will collaborate with our customers and provide health systems the fully integrated solutions they need to improve care for existing patients, as well as provide new treatment options within the communities we serve," president Aure Bruneau, said in prepared remarks. "The WalterLorenz surgical assist arm and the Rosa Brain robot are particularly exciting components of the platform - now available to surgeons. We are committed to developing tangible solutions that will provide comprehensive services from awareness and education to diagnostics, pre-operative planning, surgical procedure efficiency, post-op care and health outcome analysis."

More business will be moved to Rosa and robotic applications. If you don't see that then you're blind. Depuy is getting ready to downsize and putting more resources into robotics. Get close to that business if you can. Otherwise, a lot of people from different companies will be looking for jobs at the same time.

The brain app is cool but the total knee with ROSA is what will make a difference for Zimmer.

Not having 510(k) for the nexgen ROSA has turned the Zimmer booth at NASS into a cluster f. Good luck answering questions all day at the booth and thanks again to Zimmer leadership for giving us another disadvantage against the competition.

Hanson knows ROSA won't even have an impact in spine until 2020 and then everyone else will be on nex-gen feature sets.

At what point do surgeons and hospital administrators wake up and realize spine navigation is a waste of money and a joke?

The same thing could be said about the majority of robotic surgeries performed in other specialties, and yet the hype-train rolls on.

Exactly.

There are years of evidence backing up up robotic surgery with the da Vinci. Try finding a good surgeon doing a prostatectomy without a robot these days. You can't.

Spine "robots" though? Tell me what benefit a spine "robot" has on a patient or a case? They are useless.

Prostatectomy is the only davinci procedure for which there was not already a widely adopted, minimally invasive option. There is no data to suggest that performing a particular surgery robotically produces significantly better outcomes than performing the same surgery with the traditional laparoscopic technique.

Well, let's hope not considering we're expecting approval for spine and rolling it out at the end of this year.
