Medtronic Robotic Surgery Platform

Material revenue by 2019....?

Medtronic Plc, the world's largest standalone medical device maker, said on Monday it expects a robotic surgical system it is developing to make a meaningful contribution to company revenue beginning in fiscal 2019.

Medtronic will launch the surgical robot before the 2019 fiscal year, with the first systems to roll out in India, said Bryan Hanson, head of the minimally invasive therapies group.

The robot will generate "material revenue" in fiscal 2019, Hanson said in the company's investor day presentation.

Wow, by the title of this thread you would think that Medtronic actually has a robotic surgery program! Literally nothing unless you call their partnership with Mazor a robotic surgery program.

The more you follow Medtronic, the more you realize there is little substance behind many of their initiatives. The low growth stuff, sure.

High-tech, high-growth stuff...nothing!!!

Let’s hope Omar touches on the robotic program at his JPMorgan talk tomorrow. It’s guaranteed to be a question from analysts.

Great point by this guy from another thread -

"...that's a fairly complicated system with multiple computers being put together...." Well said, Omar. Was that comment directly from the Corporate Communications VP?

Medtech[y] | hugo robotic surgery system

This can't be the robotic system name we will go head-to-head with da Vinci? Hiring in CT and CO locations now......

Not from the U.S. unless I'm missing something.

Material revenue from India alone? Not likely. The country is poor.

Is this Hugo you are talking about?

All fair questions yet your CEO still says the robot will provide material revenue in just over a year.

The robotic system is the biggest mystery for me. No protoype, launching in India? What surgeries will it cover? Division, etc?

Anybody have specifics on the MDT robotic system being rolled out in India?

The M&A team is always looking at technology but the core Medtronic platform is already set and ready to launch at the end of 2018.

How will we see material revenue within 2.5 years if no one has seen a prototype or what the device will look like? The FDA approval process will be almost a year and a half won't it?

Bryan said the robot will rollout in India which will help generate revenue but also collect study data that can be helpful in gaining FDA approval.
