All indications are the program is on track. Surgeons have been in providing feedback, testing, etc on the platform and spiral design, focusing on the software development process. These are all early stage concepts still. But Omar says we're on track.

Hugo will be at ORSI by year end. Carving up pigs and ******* cadavers with inferior technology to davinci robots from 2008. On track for a niche Chole and Appendectomy robot.

Are you insinuating that Hugo won't hit the market for 2.5 years? I thought human testing was in 2019? I don't know if that is in the states or overseas (India, I believe). Either way, that would be a huge miss if not into almost 2021. Any clarification would be great.

2.5 years, starting today. That's 2100 robots to Hugo's 0

That is embarrassing.

....moreover, MDT mgmt. said it believes the gen surgery industry (broadly) is likely just beginning to approach an inflection point---hence MDT's significant investment to bring forth a technology of its own, even after maintaining the position that robotics was not the way of the future for decades. -- Leerink analyst note post-SAGES.

How many more years will DaVinci be placing robots in hospitals when the first version HUGO robotic system appears?

Intuitive is crushing it in general surgery, with procedures growing over 30% last year. It's their fastest growing specialty by a landslide. Other smaller companies are trying to capture market but Intuitive is so big it's almost impossible for them to get systems in a hospital unless they are for free or as a study. Yes, Medtronic has crazy pricing power but I don't think it will matter unless the product is significantly better or cheaper. Unless you know something more, no one knows if it will be either of those things....

But we still don't know what the hugo system will do. I would love to know though.

Verb cannot lap Hugo if Verb does not have a product out. At least Medtronic is giving investors updates on what they have in the works. More than I can say for Verb.

Coming soon to an India hospital; a Senhance knock-off with limited instrument choice and limited range of motion. Verb Is lapping Hugo each quarter it's not completing in-vivcases.

Reset on Hugo Surgical System. B.H. left for Zimmer to clean house before MDT takeover. Perfect time for a reset on the soft tissue Surgical System. So what’s next for Hugo? MDT Investors Day is in June. Any former Covidien engineers out there ready to spill some truth?

Ask Miki on the due diligence of DLR robotics. Maybe the initial pitch was too tempting

Medtronic can't even get the "coming soon" right --

"We are enthusiastic about the development of our surgical robotics platform, which we expect will strengthen our strategy of advancing minimally invasive procedures and we continue to make progress towards its launch. While we had intended first clinical use in humans in next couple of months, our final software and hardware integration and testing is taking longer than we initially expected," Ishrak said. "This is not unusual with systems of this complexity."

"...that's a fairly complicated system with multiple computers being put together...." Well said, Omar. Was that comment directly from the Corporate Communications VP?

The way you're talking it sounds like you've seen Hugo, or whatever they're calling it internally at Medtronic. What can you say about the system and what they're building?

Are you referring to Project Einstein
