Mick Jagger Recovering from Successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Surgery

The Rolling Stones recently postponed 17 shows over the next three months in the U.S. and Canada and the reason became more clear last week as it was reported that lead singer, Sir Mick Jagger, underwent successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery.

Jagger confirmed via a tweet that he was recovering well.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed aortic valve that fails to open properly (aortic valve stenosis).

We've embedded an animation to make the procedure easier to understand:

According to Wells Fargo analyst Larry Biegelsen, Jagger's successful TAVR procedure could provide a boost to major TAVR medical device companies such as Medtronic and Edwards.

Jagger’s procedure “will likely raise awareness of aortic stenosis and potentially lead to more TAVR procedures which should benefit the TAVR manufacturers,” Biegelsen wrote. “When celebrities like Mick Jagger undergo a surgical procedure, it tends to shine a light on the underlying disease and raise awareness of the procedure itself because of the publicity it generates.”

“These devices have already shattered many treatment paradigms and we expect them to continue to impact how heart valve disease is treated in the future,” said Biegelsen.
