Fresh off of signing a monster $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryce Harper is signing on to be an ambassador for the newly approved ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions contacts from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.
The innovative lenses were named one of TIME's 'Best Inventions of 2018' and can seamlessly adapt to changing light, helping eyes recover from bright light up to five seconds faster, which is one reason Bryce Harper will be wearing them on the field during the 2019 season.
"My eyes have to be in tip-top shape to recognize pitches at bat and to react quickly in the field, in all types of lighting conditions," said Bryce Harper. "Since I've been wearing ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions to get ready for the season, I'm able to squint less and see more."
For his role as an ambassador, Harper will be sharing his firsthand experience with the lenses through a video series during the season.
Bryce Harper Joins Team ACUVUE
"Born out of in-depth research and development around bothersome light, including clinical trials of more than 1,000 patients, ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions is an exciting and entirely new category of contact lenses," said, President, North America at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. "This product will give contact lens wearers a seamless way to manage changing light conditions in their everyday lives and activities, building on our commitment to helping people see better, connect better, and live better."
For any athlete who has to battle the sun in an effort to perform at their best, a transition contact makes perfect sense. For non-athletes, the transition lenses should be able to reduce squinting and more easily adjust to different light conditions during everyday activities such as driving.
It will be interesting to watch Bryce Harper this season to see how his transition to these new lenses goes. If it goes well, you can bet youth baseball players will be looking to see how the lenses can help them during the bright days of summer.
The ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions is a two-week reusable contact lens. It will be commercially available in U.S. beginning April 1.
